NEWSLETTER

Issue 2 April 2000

Here we are ready for the start of our 9th season taking a lucky few surfers to sample some Indo barrels and hospitality.  The time since the end of the 99 season to now has passed pretty quickly and both Stu and I are keen to get into warm water, hot waves and renew our friendships our crew and friends in Sumatra and West Java.
Thankfully the political situation is now more settled and the new President (Wahid) and his democratic (hopefully) government get things under control.  The last two years have been dud's business wise but it's had on up side.  For us and any crew who did make it over there were heaps of quality waves and virtually UNCROWDED! Bagus!
Our first trip will be a special one with 1 week in West Java and 2 weeks in Sumatra.  I'll be out of Sydney on the 17th April to tune up our planning, making sure our organisation & staff are ready for a great season.
We'll update this newsletter from time to time throughout the season and with luck I'll meet some of you & have the pleasure of showing you a few uncrowded waves on one of our trips.

The Video
As mentioned in the last Newsletter, following the excellent story in Surfing World (Sept 99) did on one of our trips last year, we put together a promotional video "Rubber Time", which shows all the waves, places and people you'll meet & see on our tours.  The feedback on the video has been mostly positive.  In keeping with our aim of giving the best we can, Stuart is getting together with 'Mexican Ray' to tune it up a little, including enlightenment about the title of the vid, which has nothing to do with condoms.

Thanks
Kye Fitzgerald and the HB crew for booking a return tour to Sumatra.  I'm sure the staff at the hotel are looking forward to seeing and hearing? the Aussie kareoke stars again.

Return Customers
are always a pleasure and each year we have more of them.   Believe it or not but we have guys lining up for their 4th & 5th tours with us.   Like I'm always saying, we've got something different and FUN!

Boardsfor Indo
have been high up on my agenda in lead up to the the start of the season, mainly guns ranging from 6'8" to 7'11".  We're in the process of putting together a Surfboards page on the web site, which should be ready by next issue of the newsletter.  At Freeline Surf Designs we've got plenty of board making experience from short boards to mals and over the past 12 years we've made plenty for the Indo traveller.

New Losmen
If you're going to West Java, don't forget the new Batu Besar Losmen at Ujung Genteng.  Good food, hospitality and 150m from one of the best lefts in the area.No GST!Last newsletter we mentioned there might be GST applicable.. Well the good news is that pretty much all  international travel and airfares are exempt.  Some good news for a change, that's for sure!

Well, that's about it for now
Next issue should be out around mid June.
So for now, get out the rubber and good surfing.
