Please note that Java Cove is very popular with the domestic non-surfing market and books out way in advance so BOOK EARLY.
Waves in this area are suitable for surfers who
want to get amongst Indo’s tropical warm water
offerings but aren’t into grunty overhead reef breaks. It's a perfect for for beginner to intermediate surfers with mostly fun waves around the 2-4 foot mark
on offer. However there’s some more challenging
breaks around on the right conditions.
You’ll also have the opportunity to take in the natural and cultural attractions on offer in this amazing part of Indonesia. This trip’s the ultimate mix of surf and culture so it’s perfect for non-surfing partners or family as well! From pick up to drop off you’ll be taken care of so you can just kick back and make the most of your hassle-free holiday.
Waves conditions as follows:
- Dec to Feb: offshore winds but very little swell
- Mar to May: offshore winds, medium-sized swells
- June to Sept: larger swells, cross-shore winds (although some inside sections of The Point can be protected from the winds by the headland)
- Oct & Nov: offshore winds, small-medium swells

ITINERARY |
Day 1 |
Airport pick up in Yogyakarta (or Jakarta) and transfer by air-conditioned
vehicle to the surfside village of Batu Karas, about 7 hours away. Check-in to Java Cove Beach Hotel, your base for the duration of your stay. In front of the hotel is a long righthand
point break that rolls through a sandlot bay for
up to 400 metres. Boards can be hired, and surf tuition is available. |
Day 2+ |
Your hosts Paul & Nik Edmiston can advise you on all the local breaks, conditions, other places of interest (Green Canyon; Wayang Kulit puppet makers; Pangandaran etc). Transport for day trips can be arranged from the hotel.
From the Sundaze Cafe, located in the front of the hotel, watch the waves and village life pass by as you kick back on the deck and take in tunes from around the world. Sundaze cafe is stocked with local and imported beer, vodka mixes, smoothies, juices and a full range of quality coffees from espresso to cafe latte.
There's a bar snack menu on offer, but we've kept your Indonesian dining experience in the hands of the locals. Next door to JavaCove Beach Hotel are a selection of food 'warungs' - simple eateries serving up food that's tasty, nutritious and as authentic as it gets.
